(JUST TALK, NO BINARIES.)
They/Us derives its name from the gender neutral pronoun They/Them and the Us versus Them battle many marginalized communities are often placed under. Depending on the context, the "They" refers to us-- the outsiders. People of color. Queer people. Women. Non-binary folk. The interweavings of all or some. But when we converge from a place of solidarity, of healing, of dialogue, of listening, the "They" alters into an "Us." It's more than just Us versus Them; it's a new type of sanctuary based on talking and listening, acknowledging, celebrating, and holding ourselves/each other accountable.
From this space was born a small, youth run magazine based on the internet. We connect femme artists of color-- and on occasion, white femme allies-- to each other in one space. Our publication strives on going beyond representation based on marginalization, but on creating a dialogue between femmes of color, our art, ourselves, our lives, our experiences, and how we interact with each other. What spaces we take up. What can we do to resist for each other. All of it done through interviews, photo essays, and showcasing our writing.
This is our space. For us. By us. Of us.
